Expertise: Detailed Engineering
Our major strength is providing innovative, cost-effective designs - on time and within budget. We have management skills to implement multi-disciplinary projects, and offer a customised service that includes design-supply and design-build options.
Design engineering is all about turning concepts into constructable designs - efficiently and cost-effectively. And essentially, it's a systematic progression - from process design and selection of mechanical equipment to sizing of control equipment, definition of electrical supply requirements and, eventually, structural design. It is important that each stage is sufficiently defined before information is passed on to the next discipline. This strategy optimises the cost of engineering and is vital for purchasing equipment. At the same time, however, it is necessary to drive the process so that the project meets its schedule. Previous site experience adds value in detailed engineering. Beca AMEC has many years of experience in managing this delicate balance, and employs a well-developed set of tools and techniques for controlling design budgets. As a multi-disciplinary company we work closely with our construction managers, and are able to deliver designs that accommodate constraints, particularly projects restricted by fully-operational, 24 hour/day plants. Innovative use of smart design tools is a significant feature of detail engineering. Tools that deliver increased accuracy with proven benefits in reducing rework costs. They also allow modelling of dynamic plant scenarios, enabling designers to eliminate plant conflicts. A defining factor in the company's performance lies in the pulp and paper industry experience of its key engineers and designers. This in-depth knowledge of how the industry works at a micro level means our designs work well in practice - not just on paper.
