Expertise: Engineering Toolbox
The ability to model any 'What If' scenario before committing capital expenditure has saved many of our clients substantial sums. Our selection of 3D design tools helps to eliminate design conflicts and technology clashes - thereby reducing construction rework.
A fundamental part of Beca AMEC's capability is its use of sophisticated software tools for modelling processes, aiding design and optimising plants. These tools have numerous benefits: they enable designs to be completed and tested before construction, with significant savings in time and costs. They help with selecting correct equipment and facilitate trouble shooting and debottlenecking. They're invaluable for pinpointing conflict areas. The tools include: CADSIMPLUS and IDEAS - advanced dynamic simulation packages that allow plants to be 'test run' before being built. They allow both discrete and continuous processes to be modelled and simulated under varying conditions - from steady state to crisis situations. PDMS - a 3D plant design package that allows multi-disciplinary teams to build a detailed model concurrently, with each designer able to see what others are doing. It results in faster design, reduced rework costs, optimised use of materials and streamlined construction. All of which means projects provide a faster return on investment. 3D LASER SCANNING - in plant modification or re-fit projects, designers need accurate, as-built data, but existing plans rarely bear any resemblance to what's actually on site. 3D laser scanning is an extremely precise (to within 5 mm) measurement and visualisation tool. Where manual measuring techniques can be inaccurate, costly, unsafe and disruptive, laser scanning produces detailed plans with substantially reduced field survey time and costs, minimal risk to personnel and no need for plant shutdown. Additional design tools used by Beca AMEC include AutoCAD, Rebis Auto Plant, Microstation 3D, Inventor, AutoPipeR, and Strand.
