Toolbox: Photogrammetry
Photogrammetry is a process used to capture the as-built configuration of a plant as a 3D CAD model. The model is built by digitizing precision photographs taken of the work site and is accurate to 5mm or better How it Works Beca AMEC utilizes the photogrammetry process developed by Offset Services Ltd. In this process, targets are placed and surveyed in the work scope area. These targets serve as a reference in the photos to determine the camera location. Pairs of high resolution photos are taken with a single-lens camera. The photos are then scanned into a computer workstation and digitized to build a 3D CAD model. Applications Photogrammetry is cost-effective in many situations. Such as: - areas of highly congested piping
- areas where manual measurement is difficult or hazardous
- plants where as-built drawings are non-existent or unreliable
- areas where dimensional accuracy is critical
Benefits Photogrammetry saves time and money and reduces project risk. By capturing the as-built configuration of your plant as a 3D CAD model, Beca AMEC will use the power of our PDMS plant design system to exceed your expectations. The benefits include: - Higher design productivity
- Reduction of construction rework costs through the elimination of interferences
- Construction sequencing simulation to optimize construction schedules
- Design review through interactive walkthrough of the 3D model
