Tony is highly regarded within the pulp and paper industry as a leader in not only strategy, technology and design but also project management. He has an extensive association with Beca AMEC and its North American parent company, AMEC.
Recently returned to Tauranga in 2014, he was working in the Melbourne office as the Business Director for Forest Industries, acting as Beca's market segment leader for the forestry industry. His pulp and paper technical knowledge, industry contacts and successful project track record have allowed him to guide Beca AMEC's expansion throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Tony is also a longstanding member of APPITA, the technical association serving the pulp and paper industry in Australia and New Zealand, and was elected a Fellow in April 2010.
Coming from a technical background at the Tasman Kraft Pulp Mill, Tony has special competence in kraft pulping, bleaching and recovery cycle and in minimum impact manufacturing. His hands on approach means he is often used for optimisation and troubleshooting assignments. This was demonstrated during an emergency assignment to resolve a client's problematic mill start-up, where they called on his problem solving abilities to map a path forward that lead to a successful start-up.
In addition to a wide variety of project work, Beca AMEC has provided Tony with several professional development opportunities. These include leading the Integrity Selling course to improve how Beca AMEC's services are advocated, active involvement in professional industry associations and presenting at regional and global symposiums. "The way my technical and professional skills have developed in parallel truly demonstrates Beca AMEC's willingness to invest in its employees," he says.
