As this issue went to print, Beca AMEC has been engaged to conduct the detailed engineering for the TMP 3 project at Norske Skog Boyer in Hobart, Tasmania. This project has been developed to improve environmental performance at the mill and lower overall costs in fibre, paving the way for greater efficiencies over the next 10 years.

In such an era of professional scarcity, sharing the value of our human resource has become paramount. Beca AMEC is fortunate in its strong connections with both parent organisations, the Beca group and AMEC plc. Over the last months, we have been able
to draw on expertise from the greater international pool and in turn, some of our local team members have ventured further afield to share their knowledge and experience.

In recent years, aggressive global competition and tightening environmental legislation have compelled mills to focus on reducing water and energy Contents consumption. However, despite significantly improved water management by Australasian mills over the past 20 years, opportunities still exist to reduce water use and improve the efficiency of water consumption.

Beca AMEC’s role in the industry is to provide a skilled knowledge resource to complement the customers’ internal resources. As the demands faced by our industry continue to grow, we also need to change. Our current focus is on systems to engage and communicate project progress with our customers, to define the business case and project scope clearly before project approval, and then to deliver the project in a visible manner to all stakeholders.
